In 1994, Having made my decision to return to Europe, and the further decision to move to the South of France, I chose the tiny village of Claviers to be close enough to Italy and within easy driving distance to Milan, Turin and, of course, Modena.

Story and color photos by Graham Gauld

The Monaco Historic Grand Prix meeting (May 11-13) has come and gone and, my, how time flies when you are having fun. As readers will know, I go to those events, never do reportage on the races, but keep looking for oddities and interesting sidelights that the others may not have noticed. Monaco this year was a rich source of items so let’s start off with an oddity, the Assegai Formula 1 car. [Read more…] about Monaco Historic Grand Prix 2018

In some ways I always dread the month of May as I usually have something going on, not only every weekend but in four different countries! As a result this is written in haste before heading off for Scotland and the Ecurie Ecosse Tour.

Ten days ago it all started with the Annual General Meeting of the Grand Prix Drivers Club which this year was held in Maranello on the invitation of Ferrari, and resulted in a good turnout of members including not only what we would call normal Ferrari drivers but including one World Champion, John Surtees. Piero Ferrari, vice-President of Ferrari was made an Honorary Member of the Club by Club President Howden Ganley and was seated beside John Surtees. [Read more…] about Gauld at Maranello and Monaco

250F Complications

Some weeks have passed since the Monaco Historic event but as it always triggers off various memories. Please forgive me for commenting on another couple of cars that took part this year. One was the Maserati 250F Picolo owned by Jos Koster and raced by German driver Frank Stippler. [Read more…] about Gauld on the 250F, Ecurie Ecosse Tour

This 1964 Ferrari 1512 brought a little variety in the F1 1500 cc grid, dominated by Lotus and Brabhams. Owned by Lawrence Auriana and driven by Joe Colasacco, it sadly had to retire after one lap.

Back in 1997 the first Historic Grand Prix of Monaco was held to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Grimaldi Dynasty, featuring cars that had taken part in the Monaco Grand Prix since its inception in 1929.

Destined to be a unique event, the Automobile Club of Monaco finally decided to organize a second edition in 2000 and since then, every two years, the streets of Monaco are the backdrop for a lesson in history. [Read more…] about Vanhoolandt at the Monaco Historics and RM Auction

You have got to hand it to them; the Monaco Automobile Club put on a real spectacle with their bi-annual Monaco Historic event held last weekend. Monaco has been a gem in on the International racing scene since 1927 when William-Grover Williams, an Englishman in Monaco, won the first Monaco Grand Prix in his Bugatti. This week it was time to forget about the modern computers on wheels that are todays F1 cars and wallow in the nostalgia of racing in the past. The Monaco event always attracts interesting cars and people; let’s meet some of them. [Read more…] about Gauld at the Monaco Historics

7th Monte Carlo Historic Grand Prix

May 26, 2010 By hugues

The Pre 1975 F1 GP cars race was the occasion to see a squadron of Tecno F1 cars, this one, a PA123 of 1972, owned and driven by ‘Nanni’ Galli himself who drove that car in period.

Story and photos by Hugues Vanhoolandt

For the 7th time, Monaco held the Historic Grand Prix on May 1st and 2nd. This author has been to almost every major vintage race event in the world, and believes that the Monaco Historic Grand Prix is an absolute must for every motosports fan. There are eight races, ranging from 1929 to 1984, and nowhere else can you be so close to the action. Surely more fun than the actual Grand Prix which takes place two weeks later.
