I am Philippe Defechereux – nowadays of Denville, NJ – and a contributor to VT. I first noticed your name when Pete sent me your recent email on the terrific Philadelphia Fiat 500 Abarth slot car racing feature. Pete sent it to me because I’m now working with David Beattie’s Slot Mods Raceways and – rightly – thought I might be interested. This next led me to your wonderful story above, also NJ-based. And by the way, my last VT article was on the fastest Fiat Abarth 500 in America (Dover, NJ) last October 31. How many happy VT-caused coincidences does this make? Email coming soon.

I have wondered all my life where that car went, even though I never saw it. Thanks Sandy!

The car raced prewar with Louis McMillan in the ARCA with a Peerless marine engine once or twice. Hudson Mills installed the T38 engine. The car survives in private ownership in Connecticut in restored condition, but still, more or less, as Howard Bearder had it.
