In the following reprinted article on building a replica, the fan ‘to assist cooling’ is specified as a propeller (impeller?) to drive the water pump. I suppose that does assist cooling

Thanks for a very insightful read on the fabulous Voisin that were entered in the French GP. Many years ago while building a die cast aluminum model of the Laboratories I asked Peter Helck about the racer. He immediately responded telling me that one could tell from quite a distance that it was a Voisin coming due to the plume of smoke following it. He was there for the race with his new bride Pricilla in France.
