A legitimate question about the DeSoto hood ornament, and I looked into it, even though it didn’t look much like painted chrome to me. The
answer is the face is lucite, not painted chrome. It does not seem to have been consistently so on 1950-52 De Sotos, but I found some
pictures of ones similar to the one in our picture.
