It’s actually a type 125, the original straight eight 5.6 litre engine of the 750-kilogram formula. The type 154 had the 3 litre V-12 engine, which was both lower and wider than the type 125 engine, and required a new chassis to accommodate the new engine. It did receive a body change in 1939 (as seen on photo #10’s unnumbered car) to a smaller low oval radiator opening than that found on the 1938 version of the body.

A friend and I made a visit to the Deutsch Museum, where a 300SLR was 0n display. Being a young brash GI, I sat in the car with no Docent around to chastise me. Sadly we took no photos. There is a lot more to my story of my beginning love for sports cars, that began there in Germany.
