The visitor number was also the largest ever with just shy of 58,000 attending over the three days. The show has certainly grown in size and stature since the early days at dear old Alexandra Palace in London (or as us ex locals call it Ally Pally). It is very much a show built by the attending owners clubs – everything from Alfa Romeos to Zastavas. Each year, many of the clubs try to outdo each other in their imaginative display settings. They also bring different cars each year which keeps everything fresh.

In addition to the club displays, a few select classic car dealers bring their best stock to sell. Many dealers reported good sales. The Silverstone Auction house also held a sale which grossed £1.1 million with some amazing prices being obtained. Two lovely Fiat 500s were on offer including one in red that brought £16000, and one in white – once owned by British Prime minister David Cameron who bought it for his wife Samantha – which brought £18000. The star lots; a Ferrari Enzo and a Lamborghini 400 GT 2 + 2 however failed to sell. Meguiars car care products held their annual Club Showcase Concours award final. Each year, the event brings forth a beautiful display of cars which have each won their own club’s national award during the year. This surely must be the only time a Renault 12 gets to challenge a Ferrari 250 SWB on a level playing field. All this and rows upon rows of auto jumble to rummage through, tools to buy and books to own made for a very full day or two for attendees.

Rare and lovely Series 1 Lancia Beta 1600 coupe.
