Salon Prive

Sloane Street Concours, London

April 20, 2026 By pete 4 Comments

Just to prove the event was in London, the rear end of the R33 and a London Double Decker Bus, also known as the Boris bus, so named after Boris Johnson, the then Mayor of London.

I was unable to make the London edition of Salon Prive, but as luck would have it the organizers decided to do a small preview under the title of ‘The Sloane Street Concours’ on April 11th. For those not familiar with London shopping streets, Sloane Street and the surrounding environs is home to some very upmarket shops, as you will see from looking at the background. Great if you like shopping (yuk) and have a Gold card. [Read more…] about Sloane Street Concours, London

September 8, 2025 By pete

Welcome to judging at Salon Prive.

Story and photos by Jonathan Sharp

Blooming typical! After what feels like weeks and weeks of no rain the forecast for the 27th August said rain, but when I pulled back the curtains at 5.30am the sun was shining in Brighton, as it still was 4 hours later when I arrived at Blenheim Palace for this year’s Salon Prive.

September 8th 2016
Just back from Woodstock; no not the pop festival Woodstock but Woodstock in Oxfordshire, the location for Blenheim Palace which has been the home of Salon Prive event for the past two years. John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough, had led his troops to victory against the French in the battle of Blenheim, a major battle in the war of Spanish succession on the 13th August 1704. To celebrate his victory, Queen Ann and a grateful nation gifted the 1st Duke the ruined Woodstock Manor and surrounding parkland together with £240,000 (about £36 million today) to build a palace. Blenheim Palace was designed by Sir John Vanburgh with construction commencing in 1705 and completed in 1733. The most notable date in the history of Blenheim Palace was the 30th November 1874, the birth date of Sir Winston Churchill. The estate itself extends to over 2000 acres. At Hampton Court: Fiat wanted to test its jewel like all alloy 2 liter Otto Vu engine so it turned to Siata who had the experience required. Fitted with triple carbs and Siata's high lift cam the engine produced 140 bhp (30 more than than the factory example). For years hidden away in Jarl de Boer’s basement.

In England early September is turning into car weeks, like Monterey, but extending almost 13 days. And in this case, instead of golf courses, it is a case of pick your favorite stately home. First might be a visit to the Duke of Northumberland’s estate, Syon Park in West London for a rather select event, “Salon Prive” where a lot of champagne is drunk, and lobster is eaten, and the stately lawns are covered by a fine selection of cars for the Chubb Insurance Concours.
